OK, So it's been a long loooooong time since I wrote our first post. After much too-ing and fro-ing we finally got the keys and signed the deeds to our lovely little cottage. (Nearly 9 months later, but who's counting?!) So now the real fun (hardship) begins! In the meantime we have also gotten pregnant and are due a tiny baby in November. We like to keep ourselves on our toes!
I was away on holiday with our 3yr old when Éanna got the keys so I only got to really check the place out properly yesterday evening and I'm itching to get started. (I'm not sure if nesting and home renovations combined are a good or a bad thing?!)
The more we look the more we see of course and it's easy to feel overwhelmed with all that has to be done. Some time ago we made a list and decided where to start....all we have to do now is remember where we put the list.......
I should mention we participated in The Simon Open Door charity event earlier in the year.( http://www.simonopendoor.ie/aboutsimon.asp) I have always supported the Simon community here in Cork and the fact that they offer you the brain of an architect to pick for an hour in return for a reasonable donation seemed just perfect for us. I would recommend it to anyone who needed a starting point or who's plans needs a little fine tuning. I did some research and choose Louise Sliney (https://www.facebook.com/LouiseSlineyArchitects/?fref=ts) who as it turned out lived in a cottage that she had renovated 10 years previous so she understood exactly where we were coming from and the pitfalls. we discussed materials and extensions and cost and came home armed with lots of drawings and a fairly clear idea of what we were going to do.
Right, here are a few photos of the what Our Cottage looks like:
